What is the church?
- It is not a buildling
- It is not an institution
- Read Acts 2:41-42, 46 and underline these words.
What is the church?
The Church is a group of baptized believers who join together in a commitment to help each other fulfill the five purposes in their lives.
- Love God with all your heart (worship)
- Love your neighbor as yourself (ministry)
- Go and make disciples (evangelism)
- Baptize them into (fellowship)
- Teach them to do all things (discipleship)
Give your first impression, what does this picture mean?
Unlikely Reasons why people go to church?
- Out of habit
- Tradition
- Out of duty
- Guilt
- Pressured to Go
- Discussion: What would you say why you go to church?
Philippians 4:1-3 When you love the Church...
...you treat it passionately (v.1-2)
...you help it purposefully (v.3)
You Treat It Passionately (v.1-2)
- Like a family, therefore my brothers
- With love, Whom I love
- To long for, and long for
- with joy, my joy
- as a crown
Three things to do with passion and purpose:
- Stand firm (v.1)
- Be of the same mind (v.2)
- Help (v.3)
