- You embrace moving forward (v.15a, 13 & 14) - Accelerate
- All of us who are mature should take such a view of things. What view? The view Paul mentioned in verses 13 and 14. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
- Is your life indicative of spiritual progress?
- What changes can you make to ensure you are moving forward?
- You seek God as your primary option (v.15b) - Authority
- And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you. God has his ways of teaching us if we are wrong and guiding us to do the right thing. It only happens if we seek him first.
- What are some things in your life that you need to seek God first?
- You build on what is laid (v.16) - Advance
- Only let us live up to what we have already attained. Continue standing on what you already have, and continue doing what you constantly do.
- What promises in His Word God have already given you that you need reminder of?
- What things help you that you need to continue doing?
- You follow a worthy example (v.17) - Act like
- Join with others in following my example, brothers, and take note of those who live according to the pattern we gave you
- From 1-10, how regularly are you following someone?
- What areas in your life need an example to follow?
- You separate from questionable individuals (v.18-19) - Amputate
- For, as I have often told you before and how say again even with tears, many live as enemies of Christ. Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is on earthly things
- You await the Lord's coming (v.20-21) - Anticipate
- But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there. the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.
- Share the things that you do that shows how excited you are in the Lord's coming.
- What are some struggles you are excited that God will change when He comes.
