Philippians 1:1-11 What Can I Pray For You?
Last Sunday, we looked at several items on Paul's opening letter to the church in Philippi. His opening remarks are:
1:1-2
- He greets the church as a "saint"
- He greets the leaders who are elders and deacon
- He greets them with grace and peace
- This grace and peace comes from God the Father and the Lord Jesus
Are there any of these points above that you have question or thoughts about? (Remember, as a small group facilitator - you do not have to know all the answer. You can study later and return with an answer. It's ok to say, "that's a good question, and lets give you an answer next week as we study this more.")
There are three prayer requests that Paul prays for the church:
1. 1:3-6. Pray for gospel -partnership, because of your partnership in the gospel (v.5)
Why is the gospel the center of everything a Christian does?
2. 1:7-8, Pray for cooperation, defending and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God's grace with me.
- by defending what you believe
- by confirming what you believe
What can Christians do be better at defending and confirming the gospel?
3. 1:9-11, Pray for spiritual maturity, abound more and more...
- mature in love (v.9)
- mature in discernment (v.10)
- mature in purity (v.10)
- mature in being filled (v.11)
Identify two areas that you need to grow a lot and what would you look like when these are developed in you?
