WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT BEING SURE. Can a person really be sure of going to heaven. In this day and age, people call it arrogance when they know for sure of something that they think no can be sure of. Look at these passages and tell how a person ought to feel about going to heaven:
- The Bible was written so you can know for sure. "These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life..." (I John 5:13)
- The Apostles remind us to be sure. "Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble,..." 2 Peter 1:10
- The Lord knows who are His. 2 Timothy 2:19, Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.”
- Because one can be lazy about their assurance. "11 We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope for may be fully realized. 12 We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised." Hebrews 6:11-12,
Paul specified a few things that many Jews claim why they will go to heaven (Philippians 3:3-6):
- Ritual - circumcised on the 8th day
- Cultural or National Identity - of the people Israel
- Family Heritage - of the tribe of Benjamin
- Pure Lineage - A Hebrew of Hebrews
- Intellectual and Relligious Affliation - In regard to the law, a pharisee
- Radical Cause - as for zeal, persecuting the church
- Perfect / No Sin - as for righteousness based on the law, faultless
WHAT GUARANTEE A PERSON HAS TO ENTER INTO HEAVEN (Philippians 3:7-10)
- 3:7 For the Sake of Christ - 7 But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ.
- 3:8 Knowing Christ - 8 What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things.
- 3:8b - Gain Christ. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ. (9) and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in[a] Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.
- 3:10 - Experience Christ. 10 I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead.
